I often write boxed text for new in-game locations. I find it easier to think through the sights, smells, and other sensations during GM prep and write them out, rather than improv’ing when I’m trying to write a game. Here’s one such location.
As you get further from the road, the underbrush in the Westwood gets thicker. The forest south of the road is deceptively deep; a peak of the Damycian Mountains towers over the road to Rissimo, and it’s tempting to think it’s closer than it is.
The forest canopy above you becomes more dense as evergreens make up a larger portion of these woods. It protects you a bit from the light snow flurries that swirl through the winter sky. Hills and valleys dot the landscape; you find some small ravines as you make your way that give you cover from the road.
As you peer through the tangle of trees, you realize that the foothills of mountains sprawl out further than you thought. Ridges of the foothills divide the woods into hollows and valleys, with creeks and streams proceeding from many of them.
You have a few hours of hiking before you even get close to the hills that surround Rissimo.
